If finding a high school in the St. George area with a
strong performing arts program is important to you, your first, knee jerk
reaction may be to opt for the Tuacahn High School for the performing arts in
Ivins. http://www.tuacahnhs.org/ I have heard praises for Tuacahn since it
opened in 1999, and if you check out its website you will see its own list of
accolades. Tuacahn is certainly an
option for students who are interested in an education highly focused on the
arts.

But don’t discount the performing arts programs in the other
high schools. For decades, Dixie High School has had a phenomenal theatre program
under the direction of Mr. Saxton. They have amassed an impressive list of
awards and recognition through the years. Students have transferred to Dixie in
order to be a part of this program, and their plays are community events. http://dhs.washk12.org/

Desert Hills is the newest high school in the county,
established in 2008, but its band program under Mr. Winslow leaped out as a strong
force catching regional and state recognition several years in a row. Also, the
orchestra program under Mrs. Candland consistently has students qualify for the

The Dance Team at Pine View High School travels to various
competitions and has taken state recognition many times under the direction of
